Cheers to the future of fitness and wellness!
If you are in business or are close to anyone in business, you know the common theme is that it’s full of ups and downs. For us at MINT the landscape of the fitness industry has shifted dramatically over the past few years; we thrive on change and forward-thinking, and we are nothing less than exhilarated by the recent evolution of the fitness and wellness market.
Since the beginning of last year we’ve experienced two major milestones: first, we launched MINT 14th St, a class and personal training oriented facility mirroring the aesthetic and vibe of MINT Dupont; I’ve launched four businesses in my career, and that launch was the easiest ‘on paper’, but unexpected complications made it the most difficult in reality. Second, we transitioned out of our K Street location after eight years, concluding that predominantly non-residential markets as a whole don’t quite match the MINT culture. All the while we introduced multiple new programming formats, equipment, amenities, and staff.
These company changes took hard focused work, financial investment, and dedication from our team, all only amplifying the ups and downs, but the lessons learned have been far more valuable than the costs. Optimism prevails in our culture and I could not be more proud of my team’s perseverance; we conclude this year and enter 2020 with our most proficient operations ever. Bresni Maldonado has been promoted to GM, and Wilder Maldonado has been promoted to AGM (fun fact: they are siblings!). These two long-term managers know MINT inside and out, and my biz partner/wife Melissa and I are very excited to work with them in these new roles. Director of Programming and MINT veteran Kathryn Kelly has hit her stride and built a diverse class schedule of highly skilled instructors and we continue to attract top talent. Our personal trainer team inspires me every day with their expertise and ability to motivate. As we approach 14 years and look to the future, the MINT formula for the long run now feels more tangible than ever.
None of our success happens without our incredible members, who understand the MINT experience and mission, bring their positive attitudes to the clubs every day, and spread the good word to others – thank you!
