MINT Yoga Pilates Personal Training

Meet August Member of the Month, Brandon Jackson. Brandon joined MINT more than a decade ago and has been a loyal member ever since. When asked what his experience with MINT has been, he said “MINT feels like home. I appreciate the special attention to detail and kindness MINT’s staff provide. It’s a real community where I feel like my needs are prioritized which I appreciate.”

When working out, Brandon strives for consistency over perfection and celebrates the small, but meaningful, small wins along his journey to becoming healthier.

Next time you see Brandon in the gym, or virtually during class be sure to say hello!

From August 1st – August 31st members can bring guests for FREE. Any buddy you bring to MINT who joins, you’ll get your next month FREE. Includes anyone you brought from Aug 1-Aug 31. Ready to get back to the gym? MINT is open for by-appointment gym visits with many important changes, including mandatory mask-use while working out.

We understand that it can be overwhelming to pick out the right face covering for exercise, but here are a few key guidelines to help you work out safely and effectively.

FABRIC – Look for masks made of light, breathable, stretchy, and moisture-wicking fabric. Try to find the same type of material you’d look for in your workout clothes. Materials like spandex, polyester, or cotton can help allow for comfortable breathing and wick away sweat while still preventing the spread of the virus.

FIT – Make sure your face covering has a tight seal around the nose and mouth, but that you are still able to breathe comfortably. It’s also important to consider how your face covering is fastened. If your mask ties on or has elastic straps, adjust them so they are tight enough to keep your mask in place. Other face coverings typically made for exercise are buffs or gaiters, which fit around the neck but allow you to pull the fabric over the mouth.

EFFECTIVENESS – There are a few ways to test the effectiveness of your mask. Hold it up to a light source (sunlight, flashlight etc.) If you can see the light through the fabric, it’s not woven tightly enough. Your face covering is also probably not effective enough if you can blow out a candle while wearing it.

It may take some getting used to, but wearing your face covering at MINT will help keep the gym a safe place for everyone. We thank you all for doing your part in helping to stop the spread.

Laura will lead you in Metta meditation to alleviate the effects of social distancing. At the end, we will provide a handout with suggested books, podcasts, websites, documentaries, and apps to help further develop your understanding of happiness.

Topic: Making Wellness a Priority
Host: Sam Donin
We are all given the same 24 hours a day. We want to help you better prioritize your health like you would your career, your family, and your friends. Wellness is a broad term that means different things to different people. During this webinar, Sam will help you define what wellness means to you and work to discover what motivates your desire to lead a healthier lifestyle. From there he will discuss the various components of health and wellness, both inside and outside the gym and how they relate to your values and goals. Our goal is to give you the tools to help you achieve your best self.
This event will be hosted by Master Personal Trainer Sam Donin. Sam is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer, Nutrition Counselor, and Behavior Change Specialist. After spending the first 5 years of his career in Corporate America he decided to switch to fitness to help people improve their health and wellness one day at a time.
We know you are as eager as us to get back in the club, let’s do this safely together! While we anticipate DC to soon approve health club reopenings, we are getting everything ready for you.  Your safety is our #1 priority and we are focused like a laser.  Since opening in 2006 MINT has earned a reputation for cleanliness.  Our cleaning standards have only increased through the years, and are increasing again substantially at both facilities as we prepare to reopen our doors. Our overnight cleaning team has already been cleaning the club daily.  Our basic business structure has always emphasized ‘quality over quantity’, which means our already-limited volume compared to traditional ‘gyms’ naturally limits member exposure.    Here are a few things to know about our plans:
  1. Our number 1 priority is to keep you safe while in the gym. Contingent on government information, our goal will be to offer ample opportunities to visit MINT, take classes, and work out with your personal trainer.
  2. Your check-in will be touchless.
  3. Our front desk staff is being trained to be part of the cleaning team and you will see them all around the facility doing just that.
  4. Look for a welcome back/safety screening form, which will be required to be completed 24+ hours before reentering.  Questions like have you traveled recently, had any chance of being exposed to COVID-19, have you had any symptoms, etc.  This form will NOT be available in the club.
  5. Gym time will require advanced registration (no drop-ins) and volume will be limited per social distancing guidelines.
  6. We plan to safely offer a limited number of in-person classes both indoors and outdoors and across all genres. When it is possible and safe we will ramp-up the volume of classes.  Please note that attendance per class will be limited to allow proper social distancing.  As per our regular procedures, all in-person classes will require advanced registration (no drop-ins).
  7. Some member amenities will phase in and not be available at first.  Please plan accordingly as the following will not be available immediately upon reopening: showers, lockers, coffee, sauna, childcare, lounge area, MINTy water, and facecloths.
  8. During this closure, we have installed a new ‘touchless’ water fountain at MINT Dupont. A ‘touchless’ water fountain has already been available at MINT 14th St.
  9. If you have borrowed equipment, we will be calling for it to be returned soon; please plan accordingly; returned equipment will be thoroughly disinfected.
  10. Everyone entering the club will be required to wear their own mask while inside the club and waiting to enter.
We can’t wait to see you! #POWERthrough We have a special 20 pack of classes for only $245 which is less than $13 a class. This class package has NO expiration date which is something we never offer. Use your classes for live-streaming workouts at home and for in-person classes when we’re ready to open! One class is typically $35. Purchase your 20 class pack here today!

Want to Help Support MINT Through This Troubling Time?

We’ve received a lot of inquiries asking how to help MINT through this, and we cannot possibly thank you enough for your kindness and generosity. Doing business in DC is VERY expensive – rent, taxes, utilities, and base salaries total more than $200,000 per month. If you consider pre-paying for your membership, training or really anything MINT related via a gift card, this will greatly help us at this time. You can apply the value anytime to anything at MINT.

If you are in the position to purchase a gift card, 10% of each gift card purchase goes to our new Support MINT Staff fund and MINT will match that amount. That means a total of 20% of each gift card purchased will go entirely to staff in need. We anticipate raising $5,000 to $10,000 or more.

  1. $500
  2. $1,000
  3. $3,000
  4. $5,000

When you’re ready to apply the value of your gift card please email accounting@mintdc.com

From the bottom of our hearts, we sincerely thank every one of you for your continued support, kind words and encouragement. If you have any questions or wish to speak to MINT founders/owners directly please email Patrick@mintdc.com or Melissa@mintdc.com.

Nift is also helping local businesses like MINT sell gift cards. 100% of the proceeds go to MINT and our staff. Even if you can’t use your gift today or in the next few weeks, buying one lets us know you’re coming. View those gift cards here.
