My experience with MINT has been nothing short of extraordinary… and that credit is all due to the staff and trainers.. specifically, Deb, Bresni, Will, Mack, JP and Liz. All of these people have been a critical part of why I joined MINT to being with and why I keep coming back. In an effort to be as honest as possible, I started my fitness journey as a part of a personal transition from female to male. I am proud of who I am and who I have become within the walls of MINT. I interviewed at least 12 fitness facilities prior to joining – and only felt at home at MINT.

Since joining MINT only 10 months ago, I have lost nearly 50 pounds, gained tons of lean muscle, and worked with incredible trainers that are a true step above any other trainer I have ever encountered. My goals involved wanting to drop 50 pounds, losing a large amount of % BF, reshaping my entire physique and building on good eating habits that could transition into a lifestyle of positive health and a complete body overhaul. I have honestly accomplished my goals so far and look forward to achieving more as time continues. Personal training has really been the key to my success and my new found accountability. I would highly encourage members to take advantage of at least 1 personal training session a month to incorporate something different in your fitness routines.

Huge thanks to MINT for providing a safe environment for someone like me that initially started with many reservations… and yet has come to feel like a second home and real safety net. I am transformed physically and mentally from my fitness journey thus far!

How has your experience been with MINT?

My experience with MINT has been great. The most important part of a gym membership for me are the classes offered, and the MINT has exceeded every expectation with the variety of classes available. The amenities are also a great perk.

Fitness goals and how you have started working your way towards them?

My main fitness goals are to improve my cardio stamina and just stay active. A few years ago, I attended my first spin class at the MINT and now I try to get to at least a few classes a week. I’ve noticed a difference in my endurance, which has made me more confident to try new classes that I always thought may be too difficult for me. To stay active, I try to get to the gym 3 to 4 times a week and take long walks with my dog when I can’t.

Classes you like?

My weeks are not complete without attending at least one RhythmRide (with Ori if possible!). I also really like MINT’s barre, TRX Bootcamp, and Fuse classes.

How has your experience been with MINT?
Mostly very good. I appreciate the skill and enthusiasm of the trainers and teachers I work with (Kate Phillips-Rivard, Kate Miller, James Parker-Ashley, Julie Langsdorf, Myke Nicholson), the friendly atmosphere in the gym, and the generally customer-friendly management approach.

Fitness goals and how you have started working your way towards them? My goals at this age (almost 70) are to try to maintain as much strength, flexibility and cardio capacity as possible. Consistent, varied workouts are the only way to do this.

Classes you like?
TRX Senior+, yoga on Wednesday and Friday at noon and sunrise on Sunday. I really miss the yoga 2-3 class and hope it will be reinstated soon! I like spin classes too, but they are often not at good times for me.

Farewell MINT Downtown: A message from MINT founders, owners, and operators Patrick and Melissa John

August 28, 2018 by mint-sk

Today, August 28, is the last day of business for MINT Downtown. Change is always a challenge, and in all honestly, this is a bittersweet moment for us. However as the saying goes… new beginnings are often disguised as painful endings.

When we created MINT Dupont in 2005 we knew we had something special. MINT’s concept was created from of our experience owning and managing a small local gym just outside The Beltway for 10 years and having lived in DC for many years it was our dream to open a facility in a neighborhood where we live and love. During the early years we worked tirelessly to make our dream a reality; eating every meal at our desks and monitoring every detail. As you can imagine, it was both fun and exhausting but we wouldn’t have changed it for anything. We enjoyed becoming a more integral part of our community, tailoring the business to the community’s need.

As the community grew to love MINT there came time where we wanted to spread the love. We found the location that was to become MINT Downtown and couldn’t resist opening a second MINT. And although saying goodbye to our second location is sad, we are beyond thankful to have had the incredible team we did and for all of the lessons opening a second location has taught us. A huge thank you to Skip, Bresni, Lorenzo, Wilder, Jen, and many others for all of your hard work and dedication to MINT over the years. We couldn’t have done it without you. Though many of our Downtown staff will be staying with us and transitioning to Dupont and Manhattan Laundry we are sad to say goodbye to our longtime Downtown general manager Skip Dority, who started with us in 2007. We will miss him tremendously.

We’ve loved meeting so many truly inspiring people over the past 8 years at MINT Downtown. Thank you to our members for your business, encouragement, and commitment. We are very excited that so many of you have decided to continue with us! We’re equally excited that all trainers and the majority of instructors are coming to MINT Dupont and MINT Manhattan Laundry.

MINT was founded on a principle of positivity and inclusion. With the closing of Downtown we are going back to our roots to focus on quality over quantity. MINT Dupont and our close-by new concept MINT Manhattan Laundry will receive 100% of our attention and we will continue to be the best fitness club in DC.

We are proud to support healthy lifestyles in our hometown of Washington D.C. and we look forward to seeing you sweating and smiling next to us at a MINT soon.
