Tips On Setting Intentions for 2023

December 30, 2022 by mint-sk

With every new year comes a desire to reflect on the year prior and look ahead to what’s to come. Regardless if you feel encouraged to set a big or small goal it can sometimes feel daunting which is why we’ve gathered some tips.

When it comes to determining your goals and the best path to achieve them, it’s important to approach your plan in a positive frame of mind. We recommend determining intentions for yourself versus resolutions. Why? A resolution is a commitment that a person makes to bring changes into their lives and often is made as a result of negative thoughts whereas an intention is a practical commitment to follow a course of action; a state of mind in which a person desires to perform something. Intentions lead to betterment as it aligns with your purpose and are responsible for initiating, sustaining, and terminating a particular action.

  1. It’s more about the journey than about the goal. It’s great to have goals but your intentions will help create positive habits and more enjoyable memories as you work towards your longer-term goals.
  2. Write it down. Putting pen to paper can help make sure you create clear intentions and helps keep track of your accountability.
  3. Be kind to yourself. Nobody is harder on you than you. Understand that there will be struggles and challenges along the way but staying true to your purpose will allow you to achieve the outcome at the right time.

Remember that if you decide to set intentions for the new year you do so from a place of clarity, focus, and kindness and not a place of negativity. And if you need help? Just ask! No one should go through this alone.

Cheers to the new year!

Tips For Managing Stress

December 14, 2022 by mint-sk

As joyful and festive as the holiday season can be, this time of year can also come with a lot of stress. During times of high stress and anxiety, it’s important to continue prioritizing “me time” and find positive ways to manage your stress. According to a recent ADAA (Anxiety & Depression Association of America) online poll, some 14% of people make use of regular exercise to cope with stress.

Group of members in a line in a boxing classWe all know that regular exercise increases your overall physical health and has the ability to help fight disease but studies have shown that movement has some direct stress-busting benefits. Physical activity helps to bump up the production of your brain’s feel-good neurotransmitters, called endorphins. These endorphins can often serve as natural painkillers. Consistent exercise encourages your brain to regularly release these endorphins, improve sleep, help with self-esteem, and decrease overall levels of tension which can have a positive effect on your quality of life.

Yoga and meditation specifically can help improve circulation, flexibility, and core strength. Cardio such as our Power Playground, Rowing, and Cycle classes are great for your heart and lungs and can improve blood flow. Participating in group exercises can help reduce stress through socialization and creating connections with other members.

Ultimately, the choice is yours as to which form of exercise is most effective for you to reduce stress – it could even be a combination of many things! The important thing to remember is that you don’t need to commit to several hours a day to exercise in order to see the benefits. Moving your body, whether it is in a group fitness class, in the gym, or going for a walk for 30 minutes several times a week is a great start. Need some guidance? We recommend checking out our class schedule which offers a variety of class types, both in-person and virtual.

MEMBER MESSAGE DEC 2022

December 6, 2022 by mint-sk

Dear MINT Members,

What a RIDE the last THREE years have been! Tough times demand a reprioritization of life, and we are nothing short of inspired by your perseverance. We are humbled by your dedication and commitment to MINT and to maintaining healthy lifestyles. As these recent turbulent times fade into the rearview, I’m reminded of the lyrics from one of my all-time favorite bands Foo Fighters’ song ‘Times like these’. “I’m a new day rising, I’m a brand new sky to hang the stars upon tonight”… “It’s times like these you learn to live again….”.

It is truly a new day for us at MINT. We have recently felt the energy coming back into the city and club, and we can hardly wait for the future! We still have a long way to go to RECOVER, but today feels eerily similar to planning for our original opening 18 years ago, so much so that we are inspired to remodel the club! Over the coming weeks and months, look for new equipment, new programming, new functionality, new complimentary perks, and a new aesthetic. To start this all off, we’ll be closed only for a week starting on Dec 23, reopening on Jan 1, 2023.  We anticipate that work does not disrupt your experience beyond that short closure.  We will keep updates coming.

Thank you for your continued business, and cheers to 2023 and well beyond!
