Get to know MINT Barre instructor Jeannie Baumann!

October 17, 2021 by mint-sk

Jeannie’s love affair with fitness began on the dance floor. In 2007, she started taking classes with Doonya — a Bollywood dance company. Jeannie loved the fun cardio workouts so much that she became one of the first instructors for their fitness offshoot. Now, she’s a master trainer.

Jeannie took her first barre class a decade ago in Los Angeles and was immediately hooked. She helped bring Barre Above training to DC (at MINT!) so she could become certified.

Barre classes generally include small, pulsing movements that focus on muscle endurance with high repetitions and low weights. At MINT, Jeannie’s classes start with a standing warm-up and core activation. Then, they move to the barre and center floor for an all-body workout designed to build strength, flexibility, and balance. Class ends on the mat with core work and a nice stretch to get you ready to conquer the rest of your day!

MINT Barre classes are hybrid, meaning she offers options with props at the gym or items you may have at home. Each class is both challenging and designed to leave you in a better mood (when you’re done silently cursing at the instructor during tough pulse segments!)

Jeannie loves that her group fitness classes provide a great way to stay active and build a sense of community. She’s had clients who met in class and ended up in each other’s bridal parties!

Outside of her own classes, she has used Braegan’s morning virtual MINT Flex and Power Playground to get through the pandemic. They are challenging, creative, and smartly designed. She also attends Myke and Shenandoah’s classes to round out her routine. She especially loves outdoor Power Playground on the Marie Reed Field to enjoy beautiful weather during a workout.

Jeannie still teaches Doonya regularly and is looking forward to the return of regular indoor classes and high fives.

You can take virtual or in-person MINT Barre with Jeannie regularly on Tuesdays at 7:15am.

Facility Fee 2021 Update

October 4, 2021 by mint-sk

Dear Members,

We hope that you are well and staying healthy as we continue to power through this pandemic. As we approach our 16th anniversary we continue to be thankful for your support during this very challenging and difficult time. We are very hopeful and optimistic about the future and are planning club upgrades which include replacing and upgrading half of our treadmills! For those who have visited the club recently, you may have noticed that we’ve completed extensive maintenance upgrades of most of our equipment. We recently invested in technology infrastructure to deliver next-level streaming and on-demand classes, we are actively adding classes to our schedule where feasible, and continue to hold the highest standards of in-club cleanliness.

As a token of our appreciation for your continued business, we have found a way to lower our annual facility fee this year to $29 from the usual $42. We realize that this isn’t a lot but we understand every little bit counts during times like this and recognize the challenges we all face. We sincerely value your choice to remain loyal members.  While the above mentioned facility upgrades constitute more than the total anticipated collected fee, we are also happy to have found a way to dedicate 25% of the fee to staff who have taken the biggest hit over the past year.

We cannot thank you enough for supporting MINT as a locally founded, owned, and operated business.

Sincerely,

Patrick & Melissa

Vaccinated Only Facility 9/20/2021

August 24, 2021 by mint-sk

Dear loyal MINT member,

As the pandemic continues to change, the safety of our staff and members is our priority. With every new development and government-mandated guideline, we continue to build upon and maintain our already-recognized MINT high standards of health, safety, and cleanliness.

To continue to prioritize the staff and members’ health and safety, we have decided to become a “Vaccinated Only Facility” as of September 20, 2021.

We did not come to this decision lightly. Many businesses in the DC area and nationally have made this decision as a way to offer the highest  levels of safety to their communities. As a team, we see this as the best path to keep our staff, members, and surrounding communities as safe as possible in a continuously changing world.

For those who have not yet submitted proof: Take a photo of your vaccination card and upload it to our Health and Safety Form. We must have a record of your vaccination by 9/20/2021 in order for you to enter the gym. We’ve linked the form here.

At this time, the indoor mask mandate remains in place for the city of DC as implemented by Mayor Bowser on 7/31/2021.  I am actively working with the Mayor’s office to reconsider this mandate, to instead allow any vaccinated-required facility to allow mask-free participation.  If you agree with our view, we encourage you to share your feelings with Deputy Mayor Falcicchio, John at john.falcicchio@dc.gov.

For members who require medical and/or religious accommodations please email our General Manager, Bresni Maldonado at Bresni@mintdc.com.

We thank you for your continued loyalty and support as we navigate these unprecedented times. If you have any thoughts or feedback, please don’t hesitate to reply directly to this email and someone from our MINT staff will be in touch.

Thank you,

Patrick John
MINT co-founder and co-owner

Get to know MINT Cycle instructor Erin Reagan!

August 22, 2021 by mint-sk

Erin is a lifelong athlete that grew up playing team sports, and then got into fitness classes. After years of attending fitness classes in both DC and Philadelphia, she decided to challenge herself and get her cycling certification through the Spinning® program by Madd Dogg Athletics. She now harnesses her years of athletic experiences to lead enjoyable and innovative classes at MINT.

Erin teaches Rhythm Ride MINT Cycle classes, which are beat-based rides with on-bike choreography and upper bodywork. They are a combination of dancing on the bike, heavy climbs and quick sprints. The music and playlist play a big role in each class — there’s nothing better than a great beat drop that leads into a full-out sprint! Each class is designed to be 50 minutes of fun AND a great full-body workout guaranteed to work your arms and abs in addition to lots of cardio.

She prides herself on offering an open space for all, whether it’s your first spin class or 100th. She aims to mirror MINT’s welcoming environment in every class she teaches and really enjoys making connections with the people that attend her class.

Outside of MINT, she loves to run and bike throughout DC – her favorite trail is the Capital Crescent Trail. She also enjoys acai bowls at South Block, taking Barre classes, and exploring new restaurants and wine bars with friends.

You can take Erin’s Rhythm Ride class Wednesdays at 5:30pm. Sign up for MINT Cycle classes here.

The return of indoor classes also means the long-awaited return of MINT Cycle classes!

MINT Cycle classes have something for everyone and are fully scalable to meet you where you are in your fitness journey, and whether you’ve never set foot on a spin bike before or use one regularly. No matter which instructor or class you take, there will always be options offered and you are in total control of your effort.

Cycling is a great low-impact option but is also conducive to pretty much any kind of workout you may be seeking. You can use the monitors and data from the bike to measure progress and ensure a tough workout, or you can just sweat it out and enjoy your ride without focusing on the numbers.

You can expect a MINT Cycle class to be a little bit of everything! In general, all instructors use the beat of the music to guide the movements, but if you lose the beat, nothing bad happens – you just keep going! There will be a mix of flat roads, climbs, speed, and some choreography on the bike that will engage muscles you don’t always think about using when cycling. Even the dance moves incorporate resistance and good form to help you get stronger.

Each MINT Cycle instructor brings their full personality to their class and their rides reflect that – some have lots of intervals, others use MINT’s Coach by Color technology, and some mimic riding on the road outside. If you don’t totally connect with one class, try a few others – they are all unique and odds are one will feel just right for you!

At the moment, all indoor classes are for fully vaccinated members and visitors. You’re required to upload a photo of your vaccination card to our Safety Screening Form. Classes are capped at 10 people so save your spot now!
